Throughout the year we have seen how technology is evolving and changing the world we live in. Not everyone has the same opinion towards this topic. As the year pass we start noticing that these advancements are affecting the way we think. For this reason, I came up with a research question. My question states the following, â€Å"Is technology affecting the way we think?†, if we pay close attention to this issue, we can see that this problem is affecting the whole world and not only a single part of it, since in this era everyone uses technology for everything. The new generation is already lazy enough and with the improvements that technology is having, it will end up making them lazier, not all of them because there’s people who actually take advantage of technology and use it to help them improve their knowledge. But we can also see that many students don’t study anymore, they just look for everything they need on google, and this will eventually affect them. And if we don’t do anything about this, the future generation will be at stake, they will be looking for the easiest and fastest way to solve problems and will end up making their future harder. This issue will matter to the people who see that technology is making other people stupid, but it isn’t al ways like that, it depends on the person who is using it. Then, her funeral became a festival and celebration of her death and everyone who came did not care that she had just passed away because she was a corrupt leader and they are happy that she has passed away. Big Mama represents a corrupt government, and Marquez uses dark humor and hyperboles often to show how people are being festive instead of mourning at the funeral. Big Mama represents a corrupt government. She arranges marriages in the case where the blood related members of a family marry within each other. That practice is the way she is able to stay in power for many years. Her â€Å"official family† is all of the family members related by blood in some way. She has them marry each other. Her family does not react to what she is doing. Big Mama has been using that practice for so long and somehow the family thinks that it is okay for her to do that and they are afraid of her. Big Mama does this practice so no one new or someone she does not know can try and have a chance to take her position. The time that Big Mama has ruled â€Å"For many years, Big Mama had guaranteed the social peace and political harmony of her empire by†¦ three trunks full of forged electoral certificates which formed part of her secret estate† (207). Big Mama is able to stay in power by forging â€Å"electoral certificates†. The certificates are similar to voting for a president. She forges them and uses fake votes so she can win the election. Also, the â€Å"men in her service, her proteges, and tenants.. exercised not only their own rights of suffrage but also those of electors dead for a century† (207-208). She has been forging votes for a very long time. Marquez believes that corruption is something funny when in reality, it is not. Thus, using dark humor to make corruption seem funny when it is a serious matter. Big Mama uses the people who have been dead for over a hundred years, votes to make it seem like she has more votes and more people voting for her every time there is an election. There have been no new rulers ever since she has taken power. Very many people do not like her and are forced to follow her rules because they are afraid of her and the amount of power she has frightens them. The people only attend her funeral in hopes of gaining something because of how well known she is and her position in society. They know that many people are going to be there because she is like a celebrity. They do not care about her or that she has died. People call the day of her funeral â€Å"the great day†. â€Å"The great day had arrived† (212). In the streets crowded with carts, hawkers, or fried foods, and lottery stalls, and men with snakes wrapped around their necks† (212). The great day is the day of her funeral. But, there are many carts and stands filled with fried food. Most funerals do not usually have carts with fried food around. The â€Å"men with snakes† are used for entertainment purposes and are just there to make a profit because all the vendors know that almost everyone is attending the funeral. It is humorous that there is entertainment and fun at a funeral. This is an instance of dark humor because instead they have entertainment and food carts at a funeral and are not mourning. They do not really care that she died. The â€Å"Duke of Marlborough†¦ overcame their centenarian hatred of Big Mama†¦ and came to her funeral to ask for†¦ the payment of their veterans’ pensions which they had been waiting for for sixty years† (212). They came to the funeral and asked for the money Big Mama owed them after 60 years. They know that she has just died. That is the perfect time to collect the money she owes them because she cannot prevent them from getting their money. They have hated her for over a hundred years and decide that the day of her funeral is the day to finally get their money back. After the funeral, â€Å"No one noticed that the nephews, godchildren†¦ of Big Mama closed the doors as soon as the body was taken out, †¦pulled the nails out of the planks, and dug up the foundations to divide up the house† (214). The family of Big Mama and everyone that is considered to be family to her do not even care about her and as soon as her body was out of the house they start to tear apart the house. Her nephews are ecstatic that she has died because now they can move on and forget about her. They are happy instead of sad. Marquez uses dark humor to show how people are festive at the funeral and hyperboles to really emphasize that there are many people at the funeral. On the first page of the story, the sentence that starts the story is â€Å"Now that the nation, which was shaken to its vitals, has recovered its balance†¦ the time to lean a stool against the front door†¦ before the historians have another chance to get at it† (197-198). The sentence is actually a whole paragraph and there are semicolons to separate the people who attend. The sentence is telling who is at the funeral and where they come from. Marquez uses hyperboles to emphasize the numerous amounts of people who are there and that they come from all over the world. Marquez uses dark humor to show how people are not mourning because she dies but are celebrating. They call it â€Å"the great day† because she is gone after many years and her family is relieved that she is gone and they do not have to listen to her anymore. When someone passes away people mourn but in this case, Big Mama passes away but everyone is celebrating by having a festival instead of a proper funeral. Her family is ready to move on because â€Å"as soon as the body was taken out†¦ pulled the nails out of the planks, and dug up to foundations to divide up the house† (214). When her body is gone they do not leave the house the way it is but start to break it and tear it apart because they want to completely forget her and anything that reminds them of her. Another hyperbole used is when â€Å"the garbage men will come and will sweep up the garbage from her funeral, forever and ever† (214). There is not â€Å"garbage† that is swept up forever and will take an infinite amount of time to clean. The â€Å"garbage† represents all the wrong and corrupt things that Big Mama does and it will take a very long time to fix what she has caused. In conclusion, Big Mama represents corruption in a government and the people who attend her funeral do not care that she passes away; Marquez uses dark humor to show how people are celebrating by using hyperboles to emphasize the fact that there is a large amount of people at the funeral. Big Mama forces her family to marry each other so she can stay in power. The people in Macondo obey her because they are afraid of her. The people at the funeral use the fact that she is very popular as a way to make money or gain something. The Silver Bullet free essay sample

While people refer to a dog as man’s best friend, I have found that my most dependable friend has been my car. But this romance between my 2001 Chevrolet Cavalier and I didn’t begin with love at first sight. As a matter of fact, this friendship started off with a lot of animosity. It was January, and I was a 16 year old with a plastic ID that represented the key to the open road. I was just missing one important item, and that was a car. Fortunately, my giving parents promised me a vehicle. I began my own car shopping at a well-known website, Lamborguini.com. I found plenty of safe, reputable cars that my parents could trust with their eldest and only son in the driver’s seat. Little did I know that my parents’ search for cars started at Craigslist, where they specifically searched for cars under $1,500. When my parents brought home the silver, 4-cylinder, stick shift, two-door 2001 Chevrolet Cavalier with 115 thousand miles, I continually thanked them but it was with a small sense of reluctance. Looking at my heat and air conditioning on my Chevrolet Cavalier, I quickly discovered a minor glitch within the power of the fan that blows the air into the car. The problem was that my heat would only work if I had the fan turned all the way up. So it was either freeze in winter, or I would have to endure a 20 mph blast of heat. But as I continued to deal with this malfunction, I found another similarity between my â€Å"silver bullet† and I. As I had mentioned, a task I have began is as good as done. But the thing is, I don’t just like to simply complete an obstacle I encounter. I want to fulfill a task with my utmost ability and efficiency. Like my heater in the Cavalier, my fan of work-ethic only runs at its highest potential. Finally, the fact that I had to manually roll down the windows proved to be a bit of an inconvenience. Nevertheless, I found yet another resemblance between the timeless Chevrolet Cavalier and myself. Like the windows of my car, my attitude towards everything I do is done through my own abilities. I am never looking for shortcuts, because I always want to learn and better myself as an individual. So if a certain assignment calls for rolling up your sleeves, getting dirty, and applying critical thinking skills. You better believe that I am always up for that sort of challenge. Through t he quirky attributes of the Chevrolet Cavalier, I discovered my own identity and what I am capable of. I am dependable, yet sporty. I am all business, yet I have my share of fun. I try to look good, yet I don’t mind getting dirty. Basically, not even a dating site could match a better couple than my Cavalier and me.

The figure represents a 47.1% rise compared to that of the year 2014. The growth rate for the year 2016 is the highest since 1964 when the countrys national tourism organization started collecting data. Given the momentumwithwhich the tou rism sector is growing, the country is set to not only achieve the year 2020 target but also surpass it by ahugemargin. The success has got the government to start considering reviewing the target and setting a higher one. The composition of inbound visitors has also changed. Chinese visitors constituted the largest proportion of the visitors for the first time Japans tourism history. Such an event was unexpected. There are several factors that can explain the change. One of them is the growing middle-class in China. The economic growth in China has been accompanied by an increase in the number of people joining the countrys middle-class category who have greater amounts of disposable income that they can spend on luxury. Another reason for the large number of Chinese visiting is the weakening of Yen (Japans currency) against the Chinese currency (World Travel Tourism Council 2015). The depreciation of the Yen makes inbound visitors find the cost of visiting Japan as holiday destination cheaper than before. The third factor in growth is relaxing of Japans visa requirement. The Chinese tourists were also the largest spenders. Their total expenditure accounted for about 40.8% of the 3.5 trillion Yen spe nt bytouristsin 2015. The spending was so much and popular that it resulted in the coining of the term bakugai which means explosive buying, to refer to the shopping sprees associated with the Chinese tourists. Even though China ranks at the top in terms of inbound tourist to Japan, factoring in the population shows a lot of potential for growth (Research Co 2016). For instance, even though Taiwan and Hong Kong are much smaller in comparison to China their proportionate tourist numbers are far much than those of China. In view of the growth potential, Japan can look forward to a greater number of inbound Chinese tourists than before.Japan also still has more room for deregulation, a factor that is bound to lead to a surge in the number of tourists from its three biggest inbound tourists that include Chinese, Taiwanese and Koreans. However, a reversal in the weakening of the Yen may lead toa countereffect that may see the numbers become more unpredictable. Inbound tourism is one of the most promising businesses in Japan. Such kinds of initiatives by both the government and the private have created more employment opportuni ties especially in the service industry. American Civil War - Battle of Oak Grove Battle of Oak Grove - Conflict Date: The Battle of Oak Grove was fought June 25, 1862, during the American Civil War (1861-1865). Armies Commanders: Union Major General George B. McClellan3 brigades Confederate General Robert E. Lee1 division Battle of Oak Grove - Background: After constructing the Army of the Potomac in the summer and fall of 1861, Major General George B. McClellan commenced planning his offensive against Richmond for the following spring.   To take the Confederate capital, he intended to sail his men down the Chesapeake Bay to the Union base at Fortress Monroe.   Concentrating there, the army would advance up the Peninsula between the York and James Rivers to Richmond.   This shift south would permit him to bypass Confederate forces in northern Virginia and would allow US Navy warships move up both rivers to protect his flanks and help supply the army.   This part of the operation was shelved in early March 1862 when the Confederate ironclad CSS Virginia struck Union naval forces at the Battle of Hampton Roads. Though the danger posed by Virginia was offset by the arrival of the ironclad USS Monitor, efforts to blockade the Confederate warship drew off Union naval strength.   Slowing marching up the Peninsula in April, McClellan was fooled by Confederate forces into laying siege to Yorktown for much of the month.   Finally continuing the advance in early May, Union forces clashed with the Confederates at Williamsburg before driving on Richmond.   As the army neared the city, McClellan was struck by General Joseph E. Johnston at Seven Pines on May 31. Though the fighting was inconclusive, it resulted in Johnston being severely wounded and command of the Confederate army ultimately passed to General Robert E. Lee. For the next few weeks, McClellan remained inactive in front of Richmond allowing Lee to improve the citys defenses and plan a counterattack. Battle of Oak Grove - Plans: Assessing the situation, Lee realized that McClellan was forced to divide his army north and south of Chickahominy River in order to protect his supply lines back to White House, VA on the Pamunkey River.   As a result, he devised an offensive that sought to defeat one wing of the Union army before the other could move to provide aid.   Shifting troops into place, Lee intended to attack on June 26.   Alerted that Major General Thomas Stonewall Jacksons command would soon reinforce Lee and that enemy offensive action was likely, McClellan sought to retain the initiative by striking west towards Old Tavern.   Taking the heights in the area would permit his siege guns to strike at Richmond.   To accomplish this mission, McClellan planned to attack along the Richmond York Railroad in the north and at Oak Grove in the south. Battle of Oak Grove - III Corps Advances: The execution of the assault at Oak Grove fell to the divisions of Brigadier Generals Joseph Hooker and Philip Kearny from Brigadier General Samuel P. Heintzelmans III Corps.   From these commands, the brigades of Brigadier Generals Daniel Sickles,  Cuvier Grover, and John C. Robinson were to leave their earthworks, pass through a small but dense wooded area, and then strike the Confederate lines held by the division of Brigadier General Benjamin Huger.   Direct command of the forces involved fell to Heintzelman as McClellan preferred to coordinate the action by telegraph from his headquarters in the rear.   At 8:30 AM, the three Union brigades commenced their advance.   While Grover and Robinsons brigades encountered few problems, Sickles men had trouble clearing the abatis in front of their lines and then were slowed by the difficult terrain at the headwaters of White Oak Swamp (Map). Battle of Oak Grove - A Stalemate Ensues:               Sickles issues led to the brigade falling out of alignment with those to the south.   Recognizing an opportunity, Huger directed Brigadier General Ambrose Wright to advance with his brigade and mount a counterattack against Grover.   Approaching the enemy, one of his Georgia regiments caused confusion among Grovers men as they wore red Zouave uniforms which were thought to only be used by some Union troops.   As Wrights men halted Grover, Sickles brigade was repulsed by Brigadier General Robert Ransoms men to the north.   With his attack stalling, Heintzelman requested reinforcements from McClellan and informed the army commander of the situation.    Unaware of the specifics of the fighting, McClellan ordered those engaged to withdraw back to their lines at 10:30 AM and departed his headquarters to inspect the battlefield personally.   Arriving around 1:00 PM, he found the situation better than anticipated and ordered Heintzelman to renew the attack.   Union troops moved forward and regained some ground but became entangled in an inconclusive fire fight that lasted until nightfall.   In the course of the battle, McClellans men only managed to advance about 600 yards.
